Urge the Maui County Council to Ban the Sale and Use of Coral-Killing Chemicals in Sunscreen Products

Maui County in the state of Hawai'i is poised to pass the first legislation in the world prohibiting the sale and use of oxybenzone and octinoxate-based sunscreens!

Scientific studies have shown that oxybenzone and octinoxate, two of the common ingredients in some sunscreens, kill coral reefs. In December 2017, Maui County's Council will vote on a bill that will prohibit the use and sale of SPF products with these chemicals.

There are many sunscreen products you can choose that don’t contain these two chemicals. Look for natural ingredients like zinc and titanium oxide instead. So this bill shouldn’t provide economic hardship for Hawaiian companies.
